Jackie Wright, the director of the Marshall County Council on Aging appeared before the Marshall County Commissioners this week to update them on their activities.

In a report showing the past four years, Wright noted that transportation has more than doubled between 2010 and 2013.  In 2010 there were 11,575 transit units or one-way trips.  By the end of 2013 that number had increased to 22,684.  There was also a substantial increase in VA from 59 in 2010 to 98 in 2013.

Wright said they currently have nine vehicles in their fleet and have two more to arrive in early 2015.  She said they had received five vehicles at one time so she’s worried that they will start having issues at the same time.

Commissioner Jack Roose asked about the drop in Meals on Wheels.  Wright explained that federal cuts in the Title III program which is part of the Older Americans Act have been shrinking.  This has reduced the number of senior citizens being able to use the program.

At the close of her comments, Wright thanked the Commissioner for the $20,000 additional she needed last year due to the federal sequester.  This year INDOT has the funds available so she won’t need any additional funds this year.
