County News_logoThe Marshall County Drug and Tobacco Free Committee announces the acceptance of grant proposals for the 2015 grant cycle. The committee may grant awards up to $60,000 in grant funds in the following categories; prevention and education, treatment or criminal justice and law enforcement. Applicants must choose to address one or more of the following problems from the County’s comprehensive plan; prescription drug use and misuse, methamphetamine production and abuse, alcohol use and abuse, marijuana use and abuse, heroin or the high incidence of tobacco use in the county.

Funds for these Drug–Free Grants are derived from fines and fees paid for by offenders who have been charged with alcohol or drug infractions. Money collected by Marshall County from the alcohol counter measure fee and the drug interdiction fee remain in the county with 75% intended for community funding of proposed grants.

In recent years, awarded grant applications have been to the Plymouth Park Department for scholarships for day camp, local high schools including Argos, Bremen, LaVille, Plymouth and Triton for random student drug testing, Indiana State Police, Bremen Police Department, and the Marshall County Sheriff’s Department for updating video equipment, tasers and alcohol sensors. Further grant funding has provided substance abuse treatment dollars for the indigent at the Bowen Center, Eric Foster, Brighter Tomorrows and A New Direction Counseling services.

Grant applications will become available on Tuesday, September 23rd at the regularly scheduled Marshall County Drug-Free meeting held at 9:15 a.m. at the Plymouth Public Library, 201 North Center Street in Plymouth in the Laramore meeting room. A portion of the meeting will address the 2014 Grant Application for those new to the grant application process. Officers and members of the Drug and Tobacco Free Committee will be willing to aid any agency and or organization in helping to complete their 2014 Grant Application for submission for consideration of available grant funds.

If your agency or organization is unable to attend, but is interested in receiving a 2014 grant application, please contact Valerie Hite at val.hite@gmail.com or call 564-842-2621 or cell 574-216-6069 for further information.

The funds for awarded grant proposals will be available upon submission of “request letter” on agency or organization letterhead.
