01/11/14 National Weather Service is advising of a storm system moving out of the southern plains that will bring between half an inch and an inch of rain to the area this afternoon and into the overnight hours. County Emergency Management Director Clyde Avery said, “In addition, above normal temperatures will allow for the melting of the snow we received this past week. Some flooding is expected.” Areas of greatest concern are those who have had previous flooding issues in the past due to their location. Primarily those residents living in low lying areas and areas with poor drainage. We may also see flooding of ditches and creeks, and ponding on road surfaces.
If you have had issues with flooding in the past, please take precautionary actions now. Sand and bags are available at the Old EMA Office located 9515 King Road, just north of the Marshall County Highway Garage. You will need to bring your own shovel.
Remember For Your Safety:
• Never allow children to play around high water areas, ditches, or storm drains.
• Do not drive around a barricade. Barricades are there for your protection.
• Do not attempt to drive through flooded roadways. The water may be much deeper than it appears because the road bed may be washed out.
• Be especially cautious at night when it is harder to recognize flood dangers.
