Marshall County Under Wind Chill Warning Until Wednesday/ Warming Shelters Open

January 27, 2014

01/28/14 Marshall County will experience occasional snow, blowing and drifting snow and bitterly cold temperatures today.

An Arctic air mass spread over the area Monday afternoon causing bitterly cold temperatures.  As a result, the Winter Weather Advisory was allowed to expire.  Steady or slowly falling temperatures will keep wind chills bitterly cold Tuesday with wind chills expected to be as low as 15 below. Therefore the Wind Chill Warning was placed in effect until Wednesday.

With wind chills so low frostbite of exposed skin can occur in a matter of minutes in these conditions. Hypothermia or even death is possible with prolonged exposure or for those not properly dressed for the cold.
Please check on elderly relatives, friends and neighbors to make sure they are safe.  If possible, bring pets indoors or make sure they have adequate shelter with dry bedding.

Area warming centers are available if needed at the following locations:
The City of Plymouth has opened a warming center at the Webster Recreation Center. Contact the Plymouth Police Department (936-2126) or Marshall County Sheriff’s Dept. (936-3187) if you need to use this facility.

The Town of Argos has the Town Hall open during regular business hours and the lobby of the municipal building is open 24 hours.

The Town of Culver has opened the Town Hall as well during regular business hours.

These locations are NOT shelters and will NOT be providing meals, or cots.
