I votedHoosiers across the state went to the polls Tuesday to do their civic duty and vote.

In Marshall County nearly 32 percent of the 29,583 registered voters went to one of the 30 precincts and voted even though there were very few local races.

Most of the Republican candidates didn’t have a challenger. Those who ran unopposed included Tim Harman for State Rep in the 17th District, Marshall Circuit Court Judge Curt Palmer, Superior Court Judge Dean Colvin, Prosecutor E. Nelson Chipman, Clerk of the Court Debbie VanDeMark, County Auditor Julie Fox, Recorder Marlene Mahler, Assessor Debra Dunning and District 1 Commissioner Kurt Garner. The four County Council seats were all filled with unchallenged Republicans: District 1Matt Hassel, District 2 Bill Githens, District 3 Don Morrison and District 4 Judith Stone.

The only County seat with a challenge was for Sheriff where Tom Chamberlin was seeking his second term. He easily won over Libertarian Tisha Jacobson-Maher with more than 85% of the vote.

There were a couple of township races. In North Township former Republican County Commissioner Jack Roose led in votes with 555 for North Township Board while incumbent Democrats Ronnie McCartney received 403 and Steve Davenport received 370. Foster Davenport was the low vote getter with 354 votes.

Polk Township had four candidates for three seats. Top vote getters were Richard Parker with 439, Clarence Shivley with 433 votes and Jerry Lamb with 407 votes. Nilas Miller only received 297 votes.

The Walnut Township Board also had four candidates. Winners were David Stults Sr. with 370 votes, Joseph Stone with 342 votes and Kenneth Dowdle with 270. Russell Alderfer only received 225 votes.
