County police investigated a two vehicle crash on State Road 17 at State Road 8 Wednesday night just after 9.
78 year old Harvey Hatfield of Plymouth was eastbound on State Road 8 in a 2014 Ford Fusion and failed to yield at the flashing red light to traffic on State Road 17. Hatfield pulled into the path of a 2001 Toyota Camry driven by 45 year old Suzanne Sage of Culver.
The T-bone accident sent the Ford Fusion off the east side of State Road 17 up against the fence at the NIPSCO substation while Sage’s Toyota spun around after impact and the back of the vehicle backed into a tree line.
Mr. Hatfield told Officer Carter that he was traveling with his cruise control and remembered tapping the brakes to deactivate the cruise but he didn’t remember applying the brakes.
Hatfield was transported to St. Joe Regional Medical Center in Plymouth for scrapes. Sage refused medical treatment at the scene but the next day did go to the hospital for treatment.
