08/06/14 On Monday, August 5th at 11:41 A.M. Bremen Police were called to the 100 block of North Center Street on a report of a suspicious subject. As officers arrived they were informed that the suspect, 67 year old Lester Chupp of Nappanee was acting weird. He was requesting pornography, asked for hugs and was trying to block the complainant in a corner of a store. Officers later located Mr. Chupp and during the investigation a second complainant claimed to have been harassed by Mr. Chupp. The suspect was arrested and incarcerated at the Marshall County Jail on charges of harassment by telephone. He was held on a $755 bond. Chupp was later released after posting bond and was issued a September 9th Superior Court II date for his initial hearing.

Readers are reminded that charging information supported by an affidavit of probable cause is merely an allegation that a crime has been committed and that there is only probable cause to believe a crime has been committed. They are presumed innocent throughout the proceedings and are entitled to be represented by counsel and entitled to a trial by jury at which the State is obligated to provide proof beyond a reasonable doubt before a judgment of guilt may be made.
