02/04/14  Based on information from the National Weather Service regarding the potential severity of the impending winter storm, and after consultation with the Marshall County Highway Department Superintendent, the Marshall County Sheriff, and the Marshall County Emergency Management Agency Director, the Marshall County Board of Commissioners will be issuing an emergency declaration on Tuesday, February 4, 2014. The emergency declaration will include a “Warning Level” travel advisory for travel upon roadways in the un-incorporated areas of Marshall County. So long as conditions do not deteriorate, the “Warning Level Advisory will go into effect beginning at 7:00pm. If weather and road conditions begin to become a safety concern, then the declaration may be put in place earlier than 7:00pm. The emergency declaration and “Warning Level” travel advisory will be re-evaluated at 7:00am on Wednesday, February 5, 2014 to determine what, if any, additional action should be taken.

This information is being sent out in advance in order to give the citizens, schools, businesses and other organizations as much advanced notice as possible, so they may begin implementing their emergency plans.

The Commissioners, in accordance with Marshall County Ordinance Number 2011-16, may issue an emergency declaration that, for safety purposes, allows them to restrict travel upon county roads. This restriction is consistent with the Indiana Department of Homeland Security’s “Warning Level” travel advisory status.
