The Indiana Department of Transportation (INDOT) announces the closure of U.S. 30, between I-65 and U.S. 41 tonight, beginning at 10 p.m. The estimated reopening time is 10 a.m. Thursday, July 3rd. The severe weather that swept through Northwest Indiana Monday night resulted in downed power lines on U.S. 30 that permanently damaged multiple traffic signals along this stretch of U.S. 30. The overnight closure is necessary as NIPSCO repairs the downed power lines, and INDOT replaces all traffic signals.
Indiana State Police will assist in closing U.S. 30, between U.S. 41 and I-65 at 10 p.m. tonight. It’s possible U.S. 30 will open to traffic, with lane restrictions, prior to 10 a.m. Thursday. But, these major emergency repairs could result in the complete closure of U.S. 30 to remain in place until 10 a.m. Thursday, or later if problems arise.

The official detour will take westbound U.S. 30 drivers around the closure by travelling north on I-65, west on I-80/94, south on U.S. 41, and back to U.S. 30. Eastbound U.S. 30 drivers will be detoured north on U.S. 41, east on I-80/94, south on I-65, and back to U.S. 30.
