Plymouth High School to hold Super Sunday May 18

May 13, 2014

Plymouth High School announced Monday that its annual Super Sunday will be this Sunday, May 18.

Super Sunday is comprised of three special ceremonies for Plymouth High School students: the National Honor Society induction ceremony, the Academic Hall of Fame induction ceremony, and Baccalaureate service for the 2014 PHS graduates.

“Super Sunday is special day for Plymouth High School students,” said Jim Condon, Principal. “It’s important to celebrate the success of our students who meet our high expectations and standards of integrity. In addition to recognizing our students’ hard work and effort, we must show our appreciation to our parents for their efforts at home.”

The National Honor Society induction ceremony starts at 1:00 PM and will be held in the auditorium at PHS.  A cake and punch reception will immediately follow.  NHS president Danielle Erickson looks forward to honoring the 29 students who have been accepted.  “It is a privilege,” she said. “The students who will be inducted have worked very hard.  The ceremony provides them a chance to celebrate their accomplishments and also honor a person who has been a huge part of their life.”  In addition to the recipients acknowledging an inspirational person, the National Honor Society will also announce the winner of the annual Plymouth High School Teacher of Excellence.

At 3:00 PM, thirteen different departments will induct twelve students into the Academic Hall of Fame, which will be held in the cafeteria at PHS.  The ceremony began with the class of 1986 and is approaching its 30-year anniversary.  Recipients of this award must have taken classes in the respective department for a minimum of eight trimesters and have a minimum of an “A” average.

Baccalaureate service, directed by eight PHS seniors, will conclude Super Sunday centered on the theme The Path to Follow.  It will begin at 4:30 PM and will be held in the Studio Theatre at Plymouth High School. The service is open to the public.

U.S. News and World Report recently ranked Plymouth High School twelfth in Indiana overall based on testing performance and college and career readiness.  Of Indiana public schools, Plymouth High School ranks in the top ten.
