Plymouth Community SchoolsThe Plymouth School Board approved a bid for the lot purchase of outdated computers that have been replaced at Lincoln Junior High.

After advertising for interested vendors, the schools received three bids.
The high bid from Vintage Tech Recyclers of Romeoville, IL was $81,450. The bid, however, does come with some stipulations. After inspection of each individual unit for both functional and physical damage, they will issue a report to the Plymouth Schools for final payment reconciliation. After the reconciliation, payment will be issued within 30 days of the audit.

Other bids were received from Mac to School, Santa Clara, CA in the amount of $55,000 and ET Hardware Sales, Indianapolis, IN for $24,435.
Technology Director for PCSC, Bruce Johnson, indicated that even with reconciliation by Vintage Teach Recyclers, he believes they will still have the highest bid.

The Board also approved five new course offerings for Plymouth High School for the 2014-2015 school year. The Weidner School of Inquiry (WSOI) will offer Dual Credit English 112, and Exposition and Persuasion and upon completion, would give students three Ivy Tech credits. Among the expectations for students is the ability to apply research and writing strategies to research-based analytic and argumentative writing.

WSOI will also offer Dual Credit English 12, Ivy Tech 211, Expository Writing. Expository Writing is a study and application of the various types of informational writing intended for a variety of different audiences.
An additional requirement will be the completion of a writing project.

An elective course open to all students at PHS will be added for PLTW (Project Lead the Way) Human Body Systems. According to Jennifer Felke, co-director of WSOI, the course is designed to engage students in the study of basic human physiology and the care and maintenance required supporting the complex systems. Students will use appropriate software to design and build systems to monitor body functions. The course offers dual credits as well.

Business Math will help prepare students in an environment where mathematical skills and business skills are combined. The content includes mathematical operations related to accounting, banking and finance, marketing, and management.

Chinese IV offers skill sets that apply to the exchange of written and oral information. The emphasis will be on practicing speaking and listening strategies that facilitate communication. Teaching staff for the current exchange program has been provided though Valparaiso University. PCSC Superintendent Daniel Tyree said he expects that relationship to continue, but indicated that they would like to have permanent teacher at some point.
