College FairA college fair where students and their parents can meet in person with representatives from dozens of colleges and universities along with representatives with the United States Armed Forces will be held on Thursday, October 9 by the Weidner School of Inquiry at Plymouth High School. The college and university representatives are coming from all over the state and will have information on the offerings of their schools, including financial considerations.
The fair will be held from 6:00-7:30 P.M. and is open to students throughout the region including Plymouth, Argos, Bremen, Culver, LaVille, Triton, Oregon-Davis, John Glenn, Knox, and Rochester High Schools.
Those attending the fair are asked to park in the north parking lot and enter through the North Doors (5).
According to Kelsey Flynn who handles communication for the WSOI, the fair is being held in the WSOI classrooms where there is an open space concept. Flynn said, “The schools participating will be in alphabetical order making them easier to find.”
Flynn said she turned to three WSOI students to help with the planning for the event. She said they three, Heather Borggren, Rachel Rettig, and Sara Smith became “interns’ for the project. She said, “The interns designed maps and flyers to organize the day.”
Flynn said they have been contacting area school guidance departments, using area print media and sending out flyers for the event. Starting on October 6, students will be using social media such as “tweeting” to advertise the regional fair.
Students from the FTA (Future Teachers of America) and WSOI have been assigned duties on the day of the fair to guide guests as well as help vendors set up as a service project.
