PLYMOUTH – It was a night where Plymouth’s Pilgrims could do little wrong in taking an opening night win over Bremen at home by a final of 89-36.

Tyler England led the Pilgrims with a double/double of 24 points and 10 rebounds.

“My team did a great job,” said England. “We had a mismatch down low and they got me the ball really well early in the game.”

A lot of that success down low was helped by baseline running mate Josh Anders who had 10 points of his own along with three steals two assist and two blocked shots giving the Pilgrims a powerful presence underneath.

“Coach Bales always says we need to establish ourselves in the post,” said England. “Josh and I have played together the past couple of years and that’s helped getting on the same page.”

Getting on the same page as a team the Pilgrims came out with an intensity that made their head coach happy.

“I thought we came out with the right intensity to start the game and set the tone on the defensive end,” said Bales. “I’m proud of our unselfish play. Lot of times guys could have shot it but they passed it up to get somebody else a shot.”

The Pilgrims took advantage of defensive pressure to push the issue throughout the game.

“We will look for opportunities to push the tempo but a lot of that was created by our defense,” said Bales. “When we got some steals our guards did a good job of looking for our big guys running the court.

“We still have some work to do defensively in the half court. Bremen did a nice job of attacking from the wing and we were slow in our rotations. Overall our kids effort – everybody that participated did a great job of contributing (in hustle plays) with guys coming off the bench. Doing those kinds of things are ways to earn more playing time and more confidence from the coaches.”

Plymouth gets a win on opening night. Bremen is now 0-2 on the season.
