GOSHEN – Playing in their first match of the season the Plymouth Varsity brought home the hardware defeating all 14 teams at Maplecrest CC in the Goshen Invitational with a team score of 318.
This was our programs first ever win at this event!  Today’s performance was also a single stroke off our best ever performance at Maplecrest.
Leading the way for the Pilgrims was senior Nate Kolter with a solid 75.  Nate finished 3rd overall.  His front nine paced the team as he turned a 1 under par (35) featuring 3 birdies.  Even more impressive was Nate’s even par round through 15 holes.
Solid, steady, and consistent play up and down the lineup was a staple today!  Junior Ben Schenk turned in 41 and went out in 38 for a solid 79.  Senior Zach Craft turned in 40 and went out in 40.  Junior Reis Yoder turned 41 out in 43.  Senior Evan Parkhurst turned 43 out in 44.
Everyone’s round included a debacle hole somewhere today.  Impressive were the players ability to gather their composure and string together quality shots, couple together pars, and find a birdie here or there. As a team we tallied 8 birdies.  Most impressive was the ball striking as 4 players hit more than half of their greens in regulation.
Today’s field featured almost all NLC schools minus Warsaw and Wawasee.  Today’s convincing victory sent an early season message to area teams about the quality and depth of our program this season.  The time, effort, and dedication to preparation is rewarding to see for our players.
Both JV and Varsity are back in action Tuesday at Eberhart GC in Mishawaka vs Bremen and host Marian.  Our home opener at PCC is Thursday vs Triton, CMA, and SB Adams.
Playing in their second event of the young season the Plymouth JV finished four shots off the lead – finishing 3rd (384 team total) – in the Rochester JV Invitational at Round Barn Golf Club Saturday afternoon.  Leading the way for the Pilgrims were freshman Hudson Yoder and Roger Karr both with 92’s.
