01/02/14 On Tuesday, December 31st at 7:50 p.m. the Marshall County Sheriff’s Dispatch Center received a report of a pick-up truck that had crashed into a utility pole on 6th Road west of Rose Road.  County Officer Larry Snyder responded to the scene and located a 1998 Ford F-150 driven by 56 year old Steven L. Stewart of Plymouth that had left the roadway striking a utility pole into the driver’s door. 

Mr. Stewart had been traveling west on 6th Road approaching the east junction of Rose Road when he lost control on the snow covered roadway traveling off the road to the right, coming back on the road striking the utility pole.

Stewart had to be extricated from the pick-up truck by the Polk Township and LaPaz Fire Departments.   He was transported by ambulance to Memorial Hospital in South Bend with head and left side injuries.  Samaritan and Med Flight were contacted for transport but due to weather conditions were unable to fly. 

This crash is still under investigation by the Marshall County Sheriff’s Department.

Assisting Officer Snyder at the scene was the Polk Township Fire Department, LaPaz Fire Department, Walkerton and Plymouth EMS. Lyon’s Wrecker Service assisted in the removal of the vehicle due to the extensive damage caused by the accident.
