ArtHemingerA fatal motorcycle crash about 3:30 p.m. Tuesday in southern Saint Joseph County claimed the life of a Plymouth man.

Art Heminger, 53, had been at a South Bend hospital to visit Albert Ganser of Plymouth who had been involved in a motorcycle crash Tuesday morning about 6:30 on his way to work on Mayflower in South Bend. Heminger left the hospital and was enroute to the Biker Church in Culver when he pulled out in front of a pickup truck at the intersection of Oak and Quinn Roads. He died at the scene from injuries sustained in the crash.

Mr. Art the Balloon ManMany may recognize Heminger as Mr. Art the Balloon Man. He loved to be where there were children; the second Friday events in downtown Plymouth, the Farmers’ Market and at many park events. He amazed children and adults alike with his ability to create animals out of balloons. A pastor with the Biker Church and member of Church of the Heartland, Pastor Hemi will be greatly missed.
Art had been out of work for 6 weeks and the family is struggling to pay their bills. Anyone wishing to help the family may do so by stopping by the Church of the Heartland with a donation.

Funeral details have not yet been completed but the service will be held at the Rannells Funeral Home Koontz Lake Chapel.
