Plymouth Community SchoolsPlymouth School Administrators informed all staff members and, at approximately the same time, sent a communication notice to parents concerning a substitute teacher that had been working in the schools.
According to the parent communication, the PCSC recently learned that an individual that had been employed by the corporation may have been involved in criminal activity in a different state. PCSC Assistant Superintendent, Dan Funston, said they received a tip from a parent concerning the matter.
According to the statement from Funston, the individual is no longer employed by PCSC.
Funston said that the substitute had only been working for the schools for the last week or two, but had substituted in multiple buildings in the corporation.
Funston stated, “PCSC is committed to the safety of students, employees and guests and has put strict policies and procedures in place to ensure that safety.”
Included in the letter to the parents was the following: “All hiring and safety procedures were followed in this situation and an Expanded Criminal Background Check completed for PCSC, as well as other entities, did not reveal any information about this individual’s past activities.”
The letter further outlined what actions are being taken to avoid further problems Funston said, “PCSC is reviewing these background check procedures to determine what, if any, changes can be made to avoid a similar situation in the future.”
According to Funston, the individual has been served a “no trespass” order. Funston said local law enforcement officials will determine if any legal action should be taken.
According to the communication from Funston, administrators believe no student has been harmed.
Funston said, “I assure you that PCSC will remain vigilant in protecting our student’s safety.”
