This past Saturday night the Plymouth Speedway played host to another great exciting night of close racing and even closer finishes that ended the month of July on a hot note. The excitement from the heat races grew into spectacular feature racing for all four divisions at the Playground of Power.
The first feature of the evening was for the Dickie’s Restaurant 600 sprint division. The competitors took the green flag with only one thing in mind, winning. However, Billy Cribbs quickly spoiled everyone’s thoughts as he pulled out to an early advantage that would grow by race end and capture his second feature win in as many weeks. Justin Bell finished with his best of the season runner-up and the taste of success for Bell felt great to finally get the ‘monkey off of his back with all the bad luck he has had.” Brent Busz rounded out the Techworks Trailer Sales podium with his first of the season in third. Fourth went to a hard charging Garret Saunders moving up from a thirteenth starting position and Nick Yoder rounded out the top five for the second week in a row.
The UMP Modifieds sponsored by Swan Lake Resorts ran a twenty lap feature that was filled with green flag action all over the 3/8 mile, sometimes three and even four wide through the turns. Dylan Woodling led the first fifteen laps capitalizing on a great pill draw following a great heat race; however, the caution flag he was fearing fell on lap fifteen with points leader Jamie Lomax now restarting on his rear spoiler. Lomax took full advantage of the restart that allowed him to overcome Woodling and grab his fourth straight feature win at the Plymouth Speedway. Dylan Woodling finished a season best second and he said “he was glad to finish second to a top national point contender in Lomax.” Third went to another unseen face on the podium this year with Dylan Nusbaum. Fourth was taken by Kyle Yocum and Frank Marshall moved up four spots to round out the top five.
The Super Streets was another hard fought race for every position behind the leader with the drivers competing for every point. When the checkered flag fell David Short was out front just ahead of Bob McLean for his third feature win in a row. McLean held on for second while Brandon Roundtree finished a very close third. In fourth was points leader Michael Clark for another top five performance and Nathan Jordan finished in the fifth position.
The final race of the evening was for the Thunder Stocks division. Their twenty lap affair saw a close battle between the top two in points. However, John Rhodes grabbed the checkered flag just ahead of Bryce Shidler. Shidler went up in flames after crossing the stripe for second to keep the points tight. Third went to Kevin Kerlin for his second podium finish in a row. Fourth went to Randy Lambert after getting by Kyle Anderson late in the race. Anderson held on to round out the top five.
This weekend the Playground of Power will host all four divisions. The UMP Modifieds sponsored by Swan Lake Resorts. The modifieds will feature two of the top five in national points this week. Jamie Lomax the current point leader at Plymouth and third in the country’s point standings along with another top five national contender with Jacob Poel, currently second coming to the track to take on their best weekly opponents.
