01/09/14  Wednesday was the first day to file for candidacy for the Democratic or Republican party primaries that will be held on Tuesday, May 6th. 

  There are a number of county offices up for election this year including the Circuit Court Judge, Superior Court II Judge, Prosecutor, Clerk of the Courts, Auditor, Recorder, Sheriff, Assessor, County Commissioner District 1, County Council members in District 1, 2, 3 and 4 and the township trustees and all board members. 

  Yesterday several republicans filed their intentions.  Those who filed included Judith Stone who is seeking her third term at County Council District 4, Tom Chamberlin who is seeking a second term as Sheriff and Julie Fox who will finishing her second term as Clerk this year, filed for County Auditor.  Jack Roose is looking for his third term as County Commissioner in District 1 although he is again being challenged by Heath Thorton.

Three candidates did complementary filings on Monday at the Clerk’s Office.  They are required to file downstate in Indianapolis.  Those include Judge Dean Colvin for Superior Court II, Judge Curtis Palmer who is seeking his second term as Circuit Court Judge and Nelson Chipman for Prosecutor.   

Also up for election in 2014 are U.S. Representative in District 2, State Representative for District 17, Secretary of State, State Auditor, and Treasurer of State. 

The last day to file candidacy is at noon on Friday, February 7.  The last day to register to vote in the primary is Monday, April 7th.  For more information on voting and elections can be found on the Clerk’s website at www.co.marshall.in.us
