Riverside Intermediate School held their ninth annual Veteran Day they titled: Celebrating American’s Freedoms Tuesday afternoon. The all school convocation started promptly at 2:20 p.m. on November 11th. The celebration lasted close to 30 minutes.
Students and staff invited their loved ones who have served or who are currently serving in the armed forces to attend the event. Local veterans were also encouraged and invited to join in the program as well.
This year more than 550 students attend Riverside’s Veteran’s Day Ceremony. The majority of the students observed in the audience, although a few dozen students took part actively in the special event.
Several audience members of all ages got misty-eyed as fifth grade choir preformed “United We Stand” and student Eric Burch performed TAPS on a Mellophone.
Four generations celebrated Veterans Day at Riverside Intermediate School. John Davis WWII veteran who served in 1943-1945 as a combat engineer and truck drive. He served in Omaha Beach in France. Tori Vancza is in 6th grade at Riverside. She is12 years old, john is her great-great grandfather. Kari Vancza is Tori’s Mom and Linda Atkins is Kari’s Mom and john’s daughter. All reside in Plymouth, Indiana.
