Riverside raises money shoots video for Relay

June 5, 2014

A spring of activity has produced a boost for Relay for Life.

Students at Plymouth’s Riverside Elementary set out in March to see what they could do to help fight cancer in the community through Relay for Life. At the end of the school year they presented a check to Kara Allison of Relay for $5750.

But that’s not all. The school also teamed up to shoot a “music video” in support of the cause that is available to view on YouTube at

Through a full season of fun Friday activities – such as dress up days – that students could participate in for a $1 donation to the cause, the school was able to make a sizable contribution.

“I think we are going to make this an annual thing,” said Riverside Principal Jeni Hirschy. “With (Project Based Learning) coming in it split the school in some ways. This was something that we were able to do all together and I think it was a great project.”

The video was three months in the planning and included literally everyone in the school in its production.

Thursday the students met the mother of Seth Young – the Bremen boy fighting leukemia that appears in their video.
