crash_NewUS31A South Bend woman was arrested Saturday evening following a one vehicle crash on the southbound lanes of the brand-new US 31.

Gilliam of Roosevelt Road in South Bend was southbound on the new lanes of US 31, which are not open for public use, about 8:45 Saturday night and lost control of the 2013 Mercedes SUV she was driving. The vehicle traveled off the west side of the roadway before colliding with a tree and fence.

County Police Officer Jonathan Bryant noted that speed and alcohol were factors in Gilliam’s crash. She received minor injuries in the accident and was arrested and booked into the Marshall County Jail for Operating a Vehicle While Intoxicated Endangering a Person and held on a $1,505 cash bond which was paid on Sunday July 13th at 9:30 a.m. Gilliam is scheduled to appear in Marshall Superior Court II on July 29th.
