Miller's_SuzukiStudents from the Suzuki Music School of Granger in Plymouth held a recital at Miller’s Senior Living Community on Sunday, December 7th. The students are under the direction of Abby Vogt. Suzuki Music School of Granger in Plymouth functions as part of the Granger school but does have its own group and theory classes.

The students as young as three years old played along with their instructor. They played songs that included technical forms such as pizzicato and bowing. All students begin with the song “Twinkle, Twinkle” and learn to play variations of the song as they progress. The students also played several other fun songs including Christmas songs during their recital.

Suzuki Music School of Granger offers a complete music program for cello, piano, viola and violin for children between three and eighteen years of age. The program includes individual and group lessons, and classes in theory, reading, or chamber music. At this time the Plymouth location offers only violin. That will change however as more students register with the school.

The Suzuki Method of teaching was designed by Shinichi Suzuki who was not only a violinist, but also an educator, humanitarian and philosopher. Suzuki was born in Nagoya, Japan, the son of a violin maker. After WWII, Suzuki began to focus his teachings and educational philosophy on children; he founded a school, Talent Education Institute, in Matsumoto, Japan, based on the premise that talent is not inborn but that any child can acquire ability. The Suzuki Method begins with the premise that music is to be enjoyed. All children have musical potential that can be developed, given the proper instruction and environment. Children will strive to learn in an atmosphere of love, encouragement and enthusiasm.

Instructor Vogt and her students will offer another recital at Martins Supermarket in the Deli area on Saturday, December 14th at 4:30 p.m. The public is invited to attend. The Suzuki Music School of Granger-Plymouth is also offering two new parent orientations on Thursday December 18th at 6:00 p.m. and Saturday, January 10, 2015 at 10:30 a.m. These orientations will be held at the Plymouth Public Library.
