County News_logoThe County’s Metronet project is moving faster than the utility marking company. During Monday’s Commissioner meeting Bart Trester, project supervisor from USI said USIC, one of the leading underground locater companies hasn’t been able to stay ahead of the crew making underground utilities for the conduit instillation project. The crew is placing 3,000 to 5,000 feet daily. The county’s contractor has brought in a second crew and they started working from the INDOT project on the south end of South Bend to Hoosier Tire and are now just south of Lakeville. Trester said, “They have installed approximately 36,000 feet and several man holes at this time.”
Trester is also managing the Metronet project for the City of Plymouth. He said, “Michiana Contracting has started to work and have installed approximately 11,000 feet.” He indicated that they will be adding a second crew to assist with the installation.
