04/24/14 Plymouth High School has been named one of the top schools in the state of Indiana on the US News and World Report Best High Schools 2014 list. They ranked PHS number 12 for the state. Nationally they ranked number 1050. This is the third time in the last seven years that PHS has made the list. This is the second time the school has been a Silver Medalist. In 2010, they received a Bronze Medalist ranking. PHS has an enrollment of some 1,087 students and 60 teachers.
John Glenn High School ranked number 17 in the state and 1304 nationally. John Glenn has approximately 611 students and 38 teachers.
Argos Jr.-Sr. High School fell just below the bronze rankings and were listed at number 46 and as recognized nationally.
In 2013, PHS was ranked number 26 for the state and 1812 nationally.
US News and World Report used a three-step process to determine the Best High Schools. The first two steps ensured that the schools serve their entire students well, using performance on state proficiency tests as the benchmarks. For those schools that made it past the first two steps, a third step assessed the degree to which schools prepare students for college-level work.
US News analyzed data from more than 31,242 public schools in all 50 states and the District of Columbia. They then published data on more than 19,411.
Nationally, 500 schools earned gold medals, 1,519 ranked at the silver level, and 2,688 were awarded bronze.
PHS Principal Jim Condon said, “It is an honor to be on the US News and World Report List for Best High Schools.”
The number one ranked school in the state was Signature School Inc. in Evansville. They ranked 21st nationally.
