City NEwsMonday night members of the Plymouth Board of Public Works approved the 2015 Street Projects presented by City Engineer Rick Gaul and Street Superintendent Jim Marquardt.

Liberty Street between Rex and Jefferson streets will be a mill and fill project with a sidewalk replacement and extension, curb ramps and the relocation of the stop sign.  The proposed Liberty Street project between LaPorte and Garro Streets includes a mill and fill with a raised curb and curb ramps.  Marquardt proposed a couple of options for the traffic signal in front of the junior high which needs to be replaced.  One option is to make the intersection a three-way stop with stop signs or have the added expense of rewiring and replacing the traffic signal.  Another option is to pull the curb in front of the school out to the west about 6 to 8 feet with a concrete bump out about the width of Garro Street to narrow down and move the stop signs closer to the driving lanes.  This portion of the proposed street projects was not approved, giving council members the opportunity to visit the site a various times and days before making the determination of the best fix.

Additional 2015 Plymouth Street projects include Marigold Court from 150 east of Fairfield to the dead-end with a mill and fill and curb and gutter replacement.  On Poplar Street from the alley to Elm Street the pair is proposing curb ramps with sidewalk extensions.  Center Street from LaPorte to Jefferson will be a mill and fill with curb ramps and a new traffic signal loop detector.  Garro Street between Walnut and Center will be a mill and fill with curb ramps while Madison Street from Center to Michigan will be a mill and fill with curb ramps.

The Plymouth Board of Public Works and Safety approved a mill and fill project for Plum Street from Harrison to North Street with curb replacement and curb ramps.  Plum Street from LaPorte to Washington is also on the list for a mil and fill with curb ramps.  Skylane Drive from Western to Michigan will receive a mill and fill with and addition of intersection pavement and Pennsylvania Avenue between Liberty and Kinston will be a mill and fill.

Hillcrest Avenue will be milled and filled between Westgate to Meadow while Randolph Street from the Yellow River Bridge to Plymouth Goshen Trail through Centennial Park will be a mill and fill.  Also in the park is the access road from Michigan Street to the swimming pool with a mill and fill.

The Oak Hill Cemetery will also get a couple of roads spruced up.  Greenwood Street and Gracelawn Street will be new street construction

Rick Gaul said they plan to do some alleys but at this point he didn’t have specific ones spelled out.  He also said the Hoham Drive project between Western Avenue and Michigan Street will be a mill and fill with partial curb replacement and new traffic signal loop detectors.

Mayor Mark Senter noted the he will be seeking a substantial additional appropriation, in the neighborhood of $300,00 in April to allow for the many street projects to be completed this year.
