Earlier this month sixth grade students in the Innovation Academy @ Riverside Intermediate School presented climate regions walk-throughs. The climate regions featured this year included the Tropical Savannah, Humid Continental, Icecap, Subarctic, Humid Tropical, Marine West Coast, Mediterranean, Humid Subtropical, Steppe, Highland, & Desert.
Some interesting facts that the students presented on their area of research: the Amazon Rainforest is in the Humid Tropical climate. River otters, exotic birds, tigers, and spider monkeys live here. One type of plant that is in this climate is the ponytail palm tree. In this climate, they get about 48 inches of precipitation throughout the year.
Another group of students talked about Icecaps and the North and South Poles. Icecaps take up 20% of our Earth. There is little or no vegetation here. Polar bears live at the North Pole and penguins live at the South Pole.
