DSC_0004 (1024x678)SOUTH BEND, IN – South Bend Adams High School graduate Margaret Birch recently signed her National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Letter of Intent to play softball at Ancilla College.

Birch, a first baseman, second baseman, and right fielder during her career, earned a varsity letter all four years while with the Eagles. This past season she earned the Kiwanis Award and Scholar-Athlete Award while hitting .294 and collecting a .667 OPS. This was the second time she received the Scholar-Athlete Award, obtaining it after her sophomore season, as well. After her freshman season, she was named Most Improved. She also just finished her travel ball season with the Northeast Indiana Thunderbolts.

“I wanted somewhere where I could further my softball career and education,” said Birch when describing her reasons for selecting Ancilla.

Coach Scott Reese displayed his enthusiasm in his comments. “Maggie is a great young lady who will add a strong defensive presence to the right side of the diamond for us. She performs well in the classroom and on the diamond, which is a huge plus also. I am excited that Maggie has become a part of the Ancilla softball family.”

Margaret is the daughter of David and Shonne Birch of South Bend and plans on pursuing a degree in Early Childhood Education.
