Ancilla College_We Believe in YouAncilla College Nursing Department will hold its 10th Professional Pinning Ceremony on Sunday, May 31, 2015 at 2:00 p.m. EST.  The ceremony will be held in the Catherine Kasper Life Center ChapelThe guest speaker for the ceremony will be Berniece Umbaugh, RN, a resident of Catherine Kasper Life Center and Registered Nurse for 70 years.

Umbaugh grew up on a farm beside Ancilla College and went to elementary and middle school in Donaldson, IN.  In 1945, she graduated from Augustana Hospital School of Nursing in Chicago.  Following a year of work at Augustana Hospital and a position as student nurse at Hanover College, Umbaugh returned to Plymouth with her husband where she started her career at Parkview Hospital (now St. Joseph Regional Medical Center-Plymouth) and served faithfully for over 30 years.  During her time at Parkview, Umbaugh was the head nurse in charge of opening the first Critical Care Unit in Marshall County in 1968.  She also served as the president of the Marshall County Chapter of the American Heart Association for over 5 years and taught CPR around the county among many other contributions to her community and profession.

Ancilla College Nursing Department is pleased to have Bernice Umbaugh share her insights about the challenging and exciting career of nursing with our graduates.  A reception will follow the ceremony in the Kasper Room, located on the lower level of The Catherine Kasper Life Center.
