PLYMOUTH, IN – The Chargers defeated the Jets of Jackson Community College on Wednesday night, capturing another Michigan Community College Athletic Association (MCCAA) Western Conference Victory to wrap up regular season action, 77-64.

Ancilla (17-12, 8-8 MCCAA) opened in dominate fashion over the Jets (10-18, 4-12 MCCAA) taking a nine point lead within the first ten minutes of the game and growing that lead to 12 by halftime. The Chargers returned to the second half even stronger, increasing and maintaining a 10 point lead for most of the half. With less than six minutes left, Ancilla was able to expand their lead over Jackson by 20 to finish the game with a win.

Charger Sophomore Juwan Johnson led the scoring for Ancilla with 22 points and pulled down nine rebounds. Eric Waddell (14) and Tque Smith (12) contributed to the Charger win with a combined 26 points. Waddell also added six rebounds for the game.

“This maybe our most complete performances of the year. We were able to set the tone early by holding them to nine points in the first ten minutes. Tonight’s win makes it three of four going into the post season and we hope to carry that momentum with us and make a deep run,” said Ancilla head coach Aaron Butcher about their home victory.

The Ancilla men’s basketball team ended their winning season 17-12 and has qualified for the NJCAA District Tournament.

“It is exciting to have both our men’s and women’s basketball teams make the NJCAA District Playoff,” said Ancilla College Athletic Director Gene Reese. “This is the first time that this has happened since the 2007-2008 season. We wish both teams success on their run toward the national finals.”

The Chargers will play in the first round of the NJCAA District Tournament Tuesday, March 3 at Muskegon Community College. Game time is set for 7:30p.m.
