DONALDSON, IN – Ancilla College is excited to announce the addition of bowling to their athletic program line up and name Al Franklin head coach.
“I started coaching as a way to give to kids something that was given to him as a young man,” commented Franklin. “That being discipline, mental toughness and that spares win games and championships in the sport of bowling.”
Franklin has been a high school and middle school bowling coach for the last nine years. He is the former coach of both Rochester High School and Logansport High School. Over his coaching career, Franklin led both Rochester and Logansport to conference titles. He also saw Rochester to a sectional title and into regionals. He has also had five kids, three ladies and two gentlemen, make it to regionals, semi-state and state with the best finish being 13th out of 350 ladies. He currently has five of his previous athletes placed on bowling teams at NAIA schools.
“I am truly humbled and honored to accept the head coaching position offered to me by Ancilla College. My dream since I started was to get to the college level and coach,” remarked Franklin. “What you find in me as a coach is I know the sport, I can teach the sport and you will excel in the sport as a member of the Ancilla College bowling team. I am excited to begin recruiting women and men for the 2016-17 season. I look forward to carrying on the winning and academic traditions of the athletic department here at Ancilla College.”
“After seeing Al coach at a variety of clinics in Northern Indiana, it is my evaluation that he has the ability to help new collegiate bowlers take their game to the next level. He is an excellent bowler and teacher and has a positive impact on students,” said Ancilla College Athletic Director Gene Reese.
Franklin is currently enrolled at American Public University where he will receive his Bachelor of Arts Degree in Sports Health and Science with a minor in Coaching in February 2016.
The bowling program will consist of both a men and women’s team and is proud to offer ample scholarships to its incoming athletes.
