AnhydrousFirefighters from the Plymouth Fire Department responded to a single vehicle accident on 12th Road between Rose and Tomahawk Trail Wednesday evening about 5 p.m.

Anhydrous_1The accident involved a pick-up truck pulling two anhydrous tanks.  The driver, who had only been on the job for a few days told officials he ran off the road way and the crash occurred.

anhydrous_2The two tanks both rolled over in the incident.  One tank disconnected from the towing equipment while the one attached to the pick-up truck stayed attached to the truck but had rolled over.

Anhydrous_3Firefighters first had to determine if the valves on the anhydrous tanks were still intact.  The valve on one tank was fine while the valve on the second tank had broken off and anhydrous was leaking out.

Anhydrous_4Chain-of-Lakes Services assisted in up righting the tanks using a back-hoe.  During the tricky process firefighters sprayed fog on the tanks to keep them safe.  Anhydrous is toxic by inhalation and during the process of righting the tanks a few residences west of the incident were evacuated for a short time.

anhydrous_5Plymouth firefighters were on the scene for approximately 4 and a half hours.  No injuries were reported although the truck driver was shook-up in the crash but refused medical treatment.

Anhydrous_6Once the tanks were back on their wheels, one was moved to the farmer’s yard while the leaking tank was placed out in the field and allowed to expel the rest of the anhydrous.
