Summer has come and gone, but the town of Argos is in a better position than ever to soak up some sun.
Roughly 3,000 solar panels have been installed on town-owned land west of U.S. 31 near its intersection with State Road 10.
The solar farm project is one of five being undertaken by the Indiana Municipal Power Agency this year.
The Argos facility is expected to go online this month, and the power produced there will stay in Argos.
“All that electricity that’s produced there will go back on our system to offset our peaking,” explains Argos Utilities Superintendent Jim Burroughs. “None of it goes back on the grid for the rest of the county or whatever. It will all stay local.”
Argos owns its own utility lines but buys its power from the Indiana Municipal Power Agency.
