INDOTlogoThe Indiana Department of Transportation (INDOT) announces periodic 20 minute closures of U.S. 20, between Pine Road and W. Linwood Blvd, just west of the South Bend International Airport, beginning on Thursday, July 30th.

The closures are necessary to ensure driver safety as crews remove nearly two dozen pieces of bridge beams for the U.S. 31/20 Bypass bridge spanning over U.S. 20/Lincoln Way.

*These 20 minute complete closures of all eastbound and westbound lanes of U.S. 20 will continue periodically throughout the day ThursdaySaturday and again on Monday, August 3rd (between 8 a.m. and 5:30 p.m.).

*Please note:  Crews will be staging the crane and other equipment on Wednesday, July 29th. Brief closures on U.S. 20 are possible beginning after 1pm on Wednesday. To avoid lengthy delays WednesdayMonday, we are urging drivers to avoid this area.

Because the beams are so large, crews will shore up the center of the bridge, cut each of the 11 overhead beams in half, and then remove them in two pieces.
