Gateway sign_Round-a-boutThe Mayor’s Sign Committee presented their recommendation to the Plymouth Board of Public Works and Safety meeting Monday evening.

Mayor Senter budgeted $100,000 for gateway signage in the 2015.

Mayor Senter and the city attorney told Board of Works members that the committee approved purchasing 4 billboards that will be erected on US 31 and US 30 directing traffic to Plymouth.  A couple of the billboards will be up for 1 year while the other two will be in place for 6 months.

After reviewing the Requests for Proposals and negotiating with North American Signs the committee recommended moving forward with their designs.  Funding will allow for three signs to be erected this year.  Examples were shown Monday evening.  The signage on the round-a-bout is large very large and will include illumination of the work Plymouth by back-lighting.

Gateway sign_WestJefferson_SouthMichiganMayor Senter noted that a variance will be needed for the size of the sign on the round-a-bout.  The other two signs will be smaller and one will be located near Ozinga on West Jefferson Street with the third one coming into Plymouth on South Michigan Street near the Family Express.

Members of the committee include: Clerk Treasurer Xaver, Councilman Mike Delp, County Commissioner Kurt Garner, Laura Mann, Linda Rippy, Jenny Sickmiller, Connie Holzwart, Cori Humes, Cindy Stockton, Christ Kurtis, Jim Vinall, Jim Marquardt and Mike Miley.  The facilitators for the committee meeting are Shelley Heiden and Shelley Moore.

The Board of Public Works approved the general design and moving forward staying within the budget for 2015.
