Bourbon Police Officer Matt Geiger was notified about 1:30 in the morning on July 4th of a wrong way driver on US 30 in the wet bound lanes. Geiger located the older jeep on US 30 at Beech Road and conducted a traffic stop.
The Driver, 57 year old James R. Howard of Bourbon appeared to be intoxicated. He was transported to the Saint Joseph Regional Medical Center in Plymouth for a blood alcohol test. Test results were .30%. After being cleared by doctors Howard was arrested for felony operating while intoxicated due to a previous charge within 5 years.
A criminal charge is merely an accusation. Every defendant is presumed innocent until or unless proven guilty.
