Marshall County’s buggy ordinance passed on third and final reading Monday morning during the Commissioner’s meeting by a vote of 2 to 1.
Commissioner Kurt Garner voted against the ordinance for the second time stating, “I’m still waiting on a 10 year road plan.”
The ordinance, which requires the licensing of horse drawn vehicles, will not be in effect until after the first of the year. Geared toward the Amish population, the ordinance charges a license of $50 per horse drawn vehicle but doesn’t affect horse drawn agricultural equipment.
Commissioner Griewank noted that funds generated from the buggy licenses will be designated to the Motor Vehicle Highway Fund for county roads.
