JACKSON, MI – The Ancilla College men’s golf team placed eighth of eight at the Jackson College Spring Tournament on Monday.

The Chargers played at the Ella Sharp Park Golf Course, in Jackson, MI, a par 70 course that stretches 5779 yards and is a slope 115.

Ancilla rallied a team score of 350 for the day, 70 over par, finishing behind Michigan Community College Athletic Association (MCCAA) conference rival Kirtland Community College, who finished seventh with a 342, 62 over par. MCCA contenders, Oakland Community College, led the pack, winning the tournament with a team score of 294, 14 over par.

Charger sophomore, Spencer Mortola led Ancilla by tying for 12th place and shooting a 77. He was only 10 shots back of tournament champion Eric Perry from Schoolcraft College who shot a 67. Jack Leland, shot an 82, tying for 25thplace for the Chargers and Zarek Finley finished tied for 37th with an 87.

“Spencer Mortola played very well, overall on the day,” commented Ancilla College golf coach March Green. “It was nice to see the incredible improvement of Cody Thompson. We are hoping our scores improve next Sunday and Monday for rounds three and four in Jackson, Michigan”

The Chargers will be on the road Sunday, in Jackson, MI for the MCCA Western Conference Third Round. Start time is set for 2:00p.m.
