BENTON HARBOR, MI – With a score of 7-0, the Ancilla College men’s soccer team claimed their first Michigan Community College Athletic Association (MCCAA) victory over Lake Michigan College on the road Wednesday night.

Charger Freshman Khalil Williams opened up for Ancilla scoring in the 16th minute with an assist from Miguel Zavala wrapping up the first half of the game with a 1-0 lead over the Red Hawks. In the second half, Ancilla came out strong with Shamar Wright scoring with an assist from Zavala. Yaret Regino would go on to score with an assist from Lee Nicholson. Nicholson with assistance from Ryan Wilcox shot one in less than five minutes later for a goal of his own. The dynamic duo of Williams and Zavala were back in action with 22 minutes left to play to score the 5th goal for the Chargers and Moustapha Gueye and Manuel Castellon with an assist from Luis Carvalho, would round out the night scoring the final two points for Ancilla.

“It was a good result and a great start of the season for us,” Coach Dave Jacobs commented. “After what was a slow start and a 1-0 halftime lead the team kept to the game plan and opened things up in the second half with a barrage of goals.”

“I have to give Lake Michigan credit for keeping it close early,” continued Jacobs, “It took us a while to get clicking but when we did, it was great to watch. We will have to come out much faster the next games Friday and Saturday if we are to compete with the top teams in the nation.”

The Chargers play at home Friday at 4:00p.m. to take on Owens Community College and Saturday at 3:00p.m. as the face off against Cincinnati State Technical and Community College.
