RR_JeffersonDuring this week’s Plymouth Board of Public Works and Safety Meeting railroad crossings ended up being a topic of discussion.

RR_HarrisonCouncilman Don Ecker asked Street Superintendent Jim Marquardt if he could contact Elkhart and Western Railroad and see if improvements could be made to a couple of street crossings.  Ecker said the crossing on Harrison Street, in both directions are “exceptionally rough.”

RR_Jefferson_1Ecker also mentioned the railroad crossing on West Jefferson Street at Pantry Plus saying, “The west bound lane is also rough.”

RR_Harrison_1The councilman said, “At some point I could see some vehicles getting further damaged due to the rough crossings.”  He continued, “That should be the responsibility of Elkhart Western Railroad.”

RR_DQMarquardt said he’s called and left a couple messages the past two to three weeks for the railroad crossing on Oak Drive at the Dairy Queen.  He said, “There’s a piece of that hard rubber sticking up about an inch and it doesn’t budge.”

RR_DQ_1He clarified, “It just rubber, it’s not steel but it’s up about an inch.”  He has concerns of what will happen if it’s not taken care of before winter when the plows are out.

Councilman Duane Culp also mentioned the roughness of the railroad crossing on the south bound lanes on Oak Drive near Bomarko.  Marquardt said the city has been trying to patch it.
