WestRockMonday evening the Plymouth Common Council took the first step in a tax abatement request for a Plymouth packaging firm that plans to invest $5.2 million in new equipment.WestRock, formerly RockTenn at 1000 PIDCO Drive makes unique food packaging for the fast food industry including Long John Silvers, Pizza Hut and KFC. In fact, General Manager Jim Janice said every chicken bucket lid made in the US is made in Plymouth.

Although their $5.2 million investment won’t create any new jobs, it will allow the company to keep its current workforce of approximately 100 employees.  Janice noted that 8 years ago when he started they only ran 1 shift with 30 people.  They no operate three shifts 5 days a week.

The tax abatement request for the $5.2 capital investment from WestRock is a seven year tax abatement for the project.

The Plymouth Common Council will conduct a public hearing on the tax abatement request at their next meeting on December 14th.
