Plymouth_Logo_2014Monday evening Plymouth City Attorney Sean Surrisi and Mark Sullivan from Midwestern Engineers opened bids for three projects involving the city water utility during the Board of Public Works and Safety meeting.

Two companies presented bids for the facility improvements at the Ledyard Water Treatment Plant.  Thieneman Construction from Westfield had a base bid of $3,132,000 while L.D. Docsa of Kalamazoo offered a bid of $3,572,000.  The bids included several alternate options which could deduct or add to the base bid.

Three companies bid on the water main extension from LaPorte Street under the river to Oak Hill.  Haskins Underground from Plymouth had a bid of $439,607 while Geiger Excavating from Fort Wayne bid $473,964 and John Boettcher Sewer and Excavating from Mishawaka bid $489,844.35.

The final bid opening was for a new storage building at the Ledyard Plant.  The only bidder for this project was Michiana Contracting of Plymouth.  Their bid was $251,380.

All bids were taken under advisement for review by Utility Superintendent Donnie Davidson and Mark Sullivan from Midwestern Engineers.

Superintendent Davidson also presented a proposal for Engineering Services for the Wastwater Treatment Plant Improvements from Midwestern Engineers.  The proposal includes design work, bidding, construction engineering, inspections and miscellaneous services.  Design work is not to exceed $650,000 while bidding services will not exceed $35,000 and construction engineering no more than $150,000.  Engineer inspections are on an hourly basis and not to exceed $290,000.

The current schedule calls for design work on the wastewater treatment plant to be completed by the end of 2015, with construction to begin midsummer 2016 with completion in December 2017.
