Saturday’s wet and cold weather put a damper on the Mayor’s Youth Council’s 3rd annual Earth Day and Arbor Day Celebration.  With such crummy weather the powers that be gathers in the Mayor’s office and decided postponing the event would be a much better idea.

The City of Plymouth will host a postponed Earth Day and Arbor Day celebration on Saturday, May 2nd beginning at 9 a.m. in River Park Square.

The city had planned to plant eight trees on Saturday but with the weather those plans changed.  Two trees on East Jefferson Street near 5th Street, two trees on North Michigan Street near Burger King and one tree near the entrance to River Park Square at Garro and Water Street will be planted on Monday by city employees.  Two trees in River Park Square will be cared for an planted next Saturday during the event.

The city’s new Christmas tree in River Park Square was planted on Saturday by city employees and members of the city’s tree and flower Committee.

The new tree replaces the original tree that was donated and planted during the construction of River Park Square.  The tree died because it droned in its container.  Since then the city employees have corrected the drainage issue, removed the irrigation and added new soil.

The new Christmas tree is a White Fir about 9 feet tall and stands proudly in River Park Square.

WTCA will release additional details on the Earth Day and Arbor Day celebration later this week.
