County News_logoClyde Avery, the Marshall County Emergency Management Agency Director was granted approval from the County Council to apply for several grants.

Prior to seeking approval he presented an overview of the grants the county has received from 2010 to 2014.  The various grants include the annual salary reimbursement and those which bring equipment to the county.   In 2014 four grants were received totaling $65,214.  In 2013 the county got $30,936 and in 2012 the amount was $22,920.  Grants awarded to Marshall County in 2011 totaled $81,980 and $64,834 in 2010….total early $246,000.

Avery said, “We received another half million in equipment between 2006 and 2010.”  He then presented his request to apply for the 2015 competitive grant in the amount of $14,900 to purchase equipment for a multi-agency coordination center at the County Highway Department.  The second grant, the 2015 Bonus Grant is in the amount of $5,111 and will provide Meals Ready to Eat (MRE) and water which can be used to feed stranded motorists during a snow event or people who are victims of a tornado, earthquake, flood or other emergency.

Avery will apply for a 2015 SHSP grant in the amount of $34,600 to purchase 6 dual band 800 MHz/VHF portable radios which can be used by agencies who are responding to larger emergency situations.  The radios will allow command to speak with those agencies who are still on VHF and those who have moved to 800 MHz.  The final grant he was approved to apply for is the 2015 EMPG salary reimbursement grant that will be available in December.  The amount will be approximately $21,033 making the total this year $75,644.50 if all are successful.
