e-poll bookMonday morning members of the Marshall County Council saw firsthand how e-poll books would work for voting.

Steve Shamo from Knowink showed how easy it will be to check in using an I-pad and the voter’s driver’s license or ID card instead of searching for their name in the ballot books.   The process takes just seconds and should allow voters to move through the polling sites at a faster pace.  It was noted that if the voter doesn’t have a card with a bar code it’s very easy to type in the name.

County Clerk, Deb VanDeMark told council members she adjusted the original proposal for purchasing e-poll books for the county by adding three additional I-pads and removing the network package.

Following the presentation County Council members asked VanDeMark to seek an additional appropriation for the $35,000 to purchase 18 I-pads and the necessary equipment to allow Marshall County to move to the next step using technology to vote.  The recommendation was to seek funding from the Cum Cap Development Fund although the clerk was informed that annual maintenance should be included in her budget request for 2016.
