CMA_Mitch BarnsCulver Academies Speech Team Coach, Mitch Barnes, was inducted into the IHSFA (Indiana High School Forensic Association) Hall of Fame on September 11. Barnes received the honor during the annual Coaches Clinic statewide meeting in Indianapolis.

To be considered for induction, members must have been coaching for at least ten years and nominated by an IHSFA fellow coach. Written nominations are reviewed by a select committee and those chosen must receive a nearly unanimous vote to be offered induction. Considerations include both service and performance.

Barnes is in his 19th year of coaching competitive speech events.

During the induction ceremony, IHSFA Board President, David McKenzie, said,” These individuals have given of their time and talents to improve speech in the state of Indiana, both for the teachers and students in the state.”” The purpose of this group is not to confer membership on all who have taken part in forensic work, but to honor with membership those who have demonstrated perseverance, ability and service.” said McKenzie.

Other 2015 inductees included Kathy Chapman (30 years) of St Luke Middle School and Joyce Pasel (22 years), Logansport High School.
