culver_public_library_late_teens_robert_waite_photoThe Culver Union Township Public Library is asking the public to join them on Saturday, June 6 at 10:00 A.M. at Culver’s Town Park for a very special ribbon-cutting ceremony to mark the grand opening of Culver’s own StoryWalk®, which is one of a daylong series of events they have planned to celebrate their Carnegie Library’s Centennial birthday party!

A StoryWalk® is an innovative and captivating way for children and adults to enjoy reading and the outdoors at the same time, thus promoting both family literacy and outdoor exercise. Culver-Union Township Public Library and the Culver Park Board have partnered to bring a StoryWalk® to the community! The StoryWalk® consists of 18 stations along beautiful Lake Maxinkuckee in the community park. Each post houses a different laminated page from a children’s storybook. As families walk along the route, they can read the book together.

In this collaborative effort, Culver Union Township Public Library is supplying the laminated book pages used in the StoryWalk®, Phil Washburn of Yankee Painter built the posts and tops, and the employees of the Parks and Recreation Department will install the posts at the Park.

This first StoryWalk will be featuring the book, The Ice Cream Hotel, by local author Jack Johnston. The StoryWalk® books in the Park will change every 2 weeks starting in June and will be available through September.

Starting at 10:30 at the Park, Stevens Puppets presents Beauty and the Beast.

The critically acclaimed Stevens Puppets, originally from Middlebury, are celebrating their 80th year of producing unforgettable and one of a kind marionette productions for children of all ages. These marionettes were authentically created in the traditional old world style, specializing in classic children’s literature, and classic fairy tales. Beauty and the Beast is a touching and humorous marionette play full of chuckles and drama. Artistic staging and clever effects accented with beautiful harp music bring this ever popular classic triumphantly to life.

Immediately following the puppet show will be games and prizes for all ages at Culver Park!  Finish with decorating your bicycle and parading back to the Library with them for lunch, cake, and a more festivities.
