DanielFlynn_1On Wednesday the students and staff of Washington Discovery Academy celebrated the book “Stay Positive”.

DanielFlynn_2The illustrator of the book, Daniel Flynn, a 2014 graduate of Plymouth High School was at WDA to read the book to the various grades.  He then allowed the students to ask questions about the illustrations and book.  He also discussed with them ways to stay positive.   With the kindergarten classes he suggested having a smile on your face noting that it takes more effort to frown.

DanielFlynn_3The story in “Stay Positive” was created by Eric Day.  He talks about his struggle with cancer and how a little 6 year old girl battling cancer taught him to be positive.   They formed a lasting bond.  In fact, Eric created the “Stay Positive” rubber bracelets and she was the first one to get one. They are now in every state and in 12 countries.

DanielFlynn_4Daniel Flynn said he has always liked to draw and his mother said at a very young age he was able to see his drawings from a different prospective.  Daniel said he’s always been creative and artistic.  In high school he took the graphic design classes and decided that was what he wanted to do.  Flynn is currently enrolled at Marian University in Indianapolis working on a double major in graphic design and business.

Students and staff at the Washington Discovery Academy all wore blue on Wednesday as part of the “Stay Positive” celebration, a change from their black and red uniforms.
