DONALDSON, IN – The Ancilla women’s basketball team went undefeated in weekend play with victories over Milwaukee Area Technical CollegeFriday, 77-67 and Trine University JV Sunday, 85-68.

On Friday, the Chargers faced off against the Stormers of Milwaukee Area Technical College. The first quarter, ended with the two teams tied 12-12. As the second quarter began, Ancilla grabbed the lead and was able to pull a 30-24 score at the half. In the second half, the Lady Chargers returned strong and were able to expand the lead in the third quarter, but their efforts would be answered by Milwaukee in the fourth quarter as an attempt to close the gap, but Ancilla was able to hold fast to the lead to secure the 77-67 win.

Sophomore Khadijah Moore led all scoring for the night with 24 points while teammate, Bianca Maxwell pulled a double-double for the game with 21 points and 10 rebounds. Michelle Detwiler pulled down 12 rebounds for the Chargers and Miranda Shepherd had five assists for Ancilla.

“This was a big win for our program because of the way the players executed,” remarked head coach Tom Robbins. “We knew both teams would have highs and lows throughout the game, but felt that whichever team handled those situations the best would win. Our team put on a great run in the third quarter and then weathered a big time run by Milwaukee Tech in the fourth.”

On Sunday, Ancilla traveled to Trine University to face off against Trine University JV in their first game of the season. The Chargers were able to take charge of the game early on, pulling a 14 point lead at the half and finishing with an 85-68 win.

Moore and Maxwell each pulled double-doubles for the game leading their team with a combined 47 points and 22 rebounds. Alexsis Miller also had a great show for the evening contributing 17 points to the Ancilla Score.

“This was Trine’s first game of the season and our players really took advantage of that fact in the first half leading by 14 at half time,” said Robbins. “We didn’t have the mental focus we needed in the third quarter and as a result came back but we were able to finish the game in the fourth with a good run.”

The Chargers will be on the road Thursday at Andrews University. Game time is set for 5:30p.m. The team will return home on Saturday to play Harper College. Tip-off is set for 1:00p.m.
