Drainage Board_German Twp mutual drainOn Monday, four petitioners from German Township submitted a request to the Marshall County Drainage Board for work on a mutual drain that feed into the George Bowser Ditch.

County Surveyor Larry Fisher said the project will be to either reconstruct or relocate the drain due to the fact that it’s on low ground with very little cover on it.  The mutual drain crosses the Meister property on Elm Road between 4th and 5th Roads and continues to have “bow-outs.”

Fisher suggested relocation as the best option as either a new drain or as a mutual drain.  He indicated that there is a big watershed that feeds into this mutual drain and then into the George Bowser Ditch.

The drainage board accepted the petition which is the first step.  Field work will be completed and a route selected prior to a public hearing this fall.

In other business Fisher said he’s in the process of getting permits to work on the bank stabilization of the Yellow River on the east side near the Foot Bridge in downtown Plymouth.  He anticipates work to be completed yet this summer.

The Drainage Board briefly discussed the height of the river due to all the rain received in the county.  Fisher said there are several log jams in the river that they have not been able to get to.  He said it might be late summer before they will be able to get to them.
